Journalism for Social Change is an 8-week, beginner friendly programme designed for students, aspiring journalists, and new storytellers who want to write with purpose and integrity. In a world where narratives influence public opinion and policy, this course teaches you how to tell stories responsibly, ethically, and in collaboration with communities.
At the heart of this course is:
- Participatory storytelling: co-creating stories with communities
- Ethics & safeguarding: consent, processes and trauma-informed writing
- Writing for impact: building narratives that shift understanding and inspire change
- Responsible reporting: especially on migration, identity, conflict, and social justice issues
What makes this programme especially meaningful is the depth and integrity brought by its instructor, Devyani Nighoskar, an independent journalist with 7+ years of experience reporting on gender, labour, migration, and environmental change across India, the UK, and East Africa. Her work is rooted in ethical, participatory, community-centred reporting, and she has trained journalists, NGOs, local governments, and refugee-led organisations in responsible storytelling.
What will you learn?
